Put Your Best Foot Forward - Hannah Lavery

Put Your Best Foot Forward

What is better than a good fitting shoe? A comfortable shoe? A stylish shoe? A shoe that will not date? A shoe that you can wear year-round? All of the above? If you also answered "not much" to any of  these then we suggest you give this post a further read.

At Hannah Lavery we pride ourselves on our timeless and classic designs. Each item that is designed for our range is done so with thought, consideration and attention to detail. We want you to feel comfortable from head to toe for any occasion. And on that note, we want you to be able to put your best foot forward, always.
Recently And_Social did a small studio shoot on some of our most popular shoes currently available from Hannah Lavery. These are also shoes which we feel are versatile in their wear and can suit multiple lifestyles, styles, occasions and changing trends.
1: The Fold Over Mule:
The Fold-over Mule was the first shoe style that we released at Hannah Lavery and it remains our most popular shoe to date! This simple yet sleek shoe can be worn casually with a pair of jeans or even made to look a bit more sporty when paired with our Emma Pants. We also love that these mules are a great option for more formal events, your daily work attire or even just slipping on while you’re at home. That being said, these mules will quickly replace your favourite sliders and become your go-to choice when you feel how quickly they hold to your feet due to the slight stretch and softening of the leather with wear. When fitting the mules it is important to consider the narrow shape of the shoe, which means that some customers may need to take a size down. This takes into consideration the stretch which comes with wear as well as the pointed toe. Currently these shoes are available in Black and Taupe, great colours to complement any wardrobe.
2: The Buckle Brogue:
The Buckle Brogue has quickly become one of our all time favourites. We introduced this classic shoe in 2019 and have been enjoying it ever since! With a buckle and side slit detail, this brogue is both flattering on the foot as well as comfortable to wear thanks to an adjustable strap and slightly elevated heel. The shoe leather also has a slight sheen which gives this classic design an added air of luxury. We love to style these shoes with some bold socks to bring a bit of playfulness to the sleek design. They are great for work, going out or even putting your feet up at home.
Our social media manager Tyla lives in these shoes and lets us know her favourite way to wear them: “I live in these shoes and honestly think that they suit any occasion! I slip them on with a pair of white socks and denims when I’m on the go, but also love to style them for a more evening look with my black Drop Crotch Pants and Dune Top - this is a super sleek look and always gets compliments. I have had these shoes for nearly a year now and they have worn so well. I am a size 7 usually but went for a size 6 in these as I knew about the slight stretch with the leather as well as the adjustable strap fitting my higher arch so well!”
3: The Savannah Heel:
These are our power shoes and one of our few designs with a heel. They were designed with comfort and longevity in mind. And when we say longevity we don’t only mean in their timeless style, but in their comfort when wearing them for extended periods of time too. This heel is high enough to be flattering, but low enough to be comfortable, making it the perfect shoe for work or an event. They also have the unique angular shape detail running down the front of the shoe which is incredibly flattering and makes them work with most dresses or pants as you can always see just a tiny bit of skin. These pair well with our Swing Dress and can ensure that you are able to dance around all night in this flowy style. They’re also great when dressed up with a power suit, such as our Tuxedo Pants and Jacket or our new Sienna Jacket and Pants.
4: The Classic Mule:
The Classic Mule is your everyday shoe that can seamlessly move from work to leisure. The midpoint between your at-home slippers and slip-on work sliders! They are super comfortable shoes that have been designed to fit broader feet. Wearing these is like wearing extremely chic slippers with a good fit overall. We love to style them with our Slouchy Linen Pants and Drift Shirt for a laid back and easy look. They also pair well with our Emma Pants or Linen Midi Slip Dress for the warmer days when less is best! Some of our customers do prefer to size up on these but we suggest measuring your foot before doing so. You can measure your foot by measuring from the point of your biggest toe to your heel, and then taking the widest part of the top of your foot and seeing which size is best suited to you. This way of measuring ensures you select the right size for your foot. One of our customers, Adi Leach, left a great review for these shoes, she said: “ I have been searching for a stylish navy mule forever - and here it is: The Classic Mule. Elegant, timeless and super-comfortable. A must in any wardrobe.”
When shopping our shoes we do ask our customers to be mindful of the fact that all leather shoes stretch a bit once you have worn them for a while - that’s what makes them super comfortable, because they have  moulded to the shape of your foot. These shoes should be snug on your foot in the beginning because you don’t want them to stretch too much and have your foot slip out - so take your exact size and if you are in-between sizes go for your lower option.
Our shoes are all handmade in Cape Town from genuine kid leather; pigskin inners and resin soles. An alternative leather inner can be arranged for our customers who do not wear pigskin. Subject to availability and upon request we can create shoes with alternative lining options, such as linen or goatskin. You can contact our store for more information at: [email protected] and check out a past blog post for more information on our Alternative Lining.
