Fashion Revolution - Who made your clothing?
It’s Fashion Revolution Week this week! Did you know?
This year Fashion Revolution runs from Monday 19th of April - Friday 25th April. If you haven’t heard by now - Fashion Revolution happens every year around the 24th of April. This date is the anniversary of the 2013 Rana Plaza Collapse.
Rana Plaza was a building in Bangladesh that housed a number of garment factories - employing over 5000 people - for many well known brands. The collapse claimed over 1100 lives and a further 2500 injured, mostly young women.
This year marks 8 years since the collapse of the Rana Plaza building.
"Fashion Revolution states that this week they will focus on the interconnectedness of human rights and the rights of nature. Their campaign will amplify unheard voices across the fashion supply chain and harness the creativity of our community to explore innovative and interconnected solutions." - Fashion Revolution 2021.
At Hannah Lavery we strive to be aware and conscious, asking the right questions and having honest conversations. We constantly create awareness as to who is actually making your clothing. We have an open work environment where each department is close and we are able to interact and communicate efficiently and openly among each other.
You’ve met them before but today you can get a glimpse of our lovely team!
Our clothing is made in-house in our studio in Cape Town. Our wonderful, talented and amazing production team consists of a mother and daughter duo, friends and family by friendship!
From left to right starting at the back:
Wonderful Naomi: Naomi recently joined the Hannah Lavery team. Always smiling and giggling! Naomi is very helpful and even helps our online manager, Mubeena, with online orders! She cleans / dethreads the garments.
Kind Florence: Florence is part of our ironer duo - she is super lovely and helpful. Also new to the team - she has already made her mark on the rest of the team with her can-do attitude!
Happy Tina: Tina has been with us since the beginning! Now that is loyalty. Tina is very specialized in what she does and has many years of experience. She is super fast and efficient and brings the garment to life after ironing it!
Sweet Sharon: Sharon has been at Hannah Lavery for many years. She is responsible for the cutting of garments in our studio and handles her work with care and caution. She has a great laugh!
Lovely Eveleen: Eveleen is our head seamstress - she has also been with us for many years. She is incredibly organized and runs a tight ship - very system orientated. We love it!
Dedicated Goejira: Goejira is very fast paced and is incredibly hard working. She is part of our garment finishing department as well as doing our quality control. She has an amazing eye for detail and can spot a thread from a mile away!
Amazing Patricia: Patricia has been with Hannah since she started the Hannah Lavery brand in 2012. She is our highly skilled sample hand with many years of experience and works closely with Hannah to develop and perfect the fit of our garments. She is warm and kind hearted!
Smiling Fiela: Fiela has a contagious smile and is very bubbly! She is a whizz on the sewing machine and is always open to teaching us a thing or two! Also new to the team - she fitted in immediately!
Absent on the day of photo's:
Bold Felicia: Feisty with a big heart and a loud laugh, Felicia is also one of our seamstresses and has been with us for a long time. She's a straight talker and a doer!
